Duke’s First Down: A First Birthday Party Sure to Win was a total touchdown! 🎉 To celebrate his big “First Down,” we threw a football-themed party complete with festive decorations and delicious treats. It’s hard to believe it’s already been six months since the big day, but I’m finally getting around to sharing all the fun from Duke’s first birthday party. Let’s break it down! 🏈
the details
The little details made Duke’s First Down party even more special. His football-themed invitations set the tone for the celebration, getting everyone excited for the big day. We decorated his high chair with a “ONE” banner, perfectly matching the football theme and making for the cutest cake smash photos. We also had a custom milestone board from Etsy, highlighting all of Duke’s favorite things, from foods he loves to his biggest accomplishments in his first year. To top it all off, he wore the most adorable monogrammed birthday hat, adding a classic and personalized touch to his big day. These little touches made the celebration feel extra memorable and picture-perfect!

food
No football party is complete without good food, and we kept things simple with all the game-day favorites! We had mini wings, chicken nuggets, and plenty of snakcs for everyone to snack on. Of course, I had to make my tailgate favorite—Sweet & Smokey Pigs in a Blanket—which were a huge hit! Click here for the recipe.
balloons
We hosted Duke’s party at our home, and the balloon garlands and photo backdrop totally transformed the space! These balloons and backdrop are from Birchwood Events. If you are local to North Georgia, she will come and set everything up for you. I have used her several times before and her work is always beautiful! Check out this post to see her beautiful work at another event I hosted. We rented the white bounce house from Athens Party Co for the older kids to stay entertained outdoors.
Sweets
I love ordering personalized cookies for any party, and Duke’s First Down was no exception! The custom football-themed cookies from Julie Beans Bake Shop were the perfect touch and really brought the sweets table together. She always does an amazing job, and her cookies taste just as good as they look! If you’re planning a party, I highly recommend checking out her Instagram @juliebeansbakeshop.—she can create just about any theme you can imagine.
For Duke’s cake, we went with @classiccityconfections, and it was just as delicious as it was adorable.
Outfits
Of course I wanted the kids to be matching! I ordered a dress and bubble in matching gingham blue print at this retailer. They’re always rotating their pieces so if you type in “blue gingham” in the search bar you’ll see all of the current options 🙂
Duke’s First Down birthday party was such a special day filled with family, friends, and so many fun memories. From the football-themed details to the delicious food and the sweetest treats, everything came together to celebrate our little MVP turning one. I can’t believe how fast time is flying, but looking back on this day makes me so grateful for all the love that surrounded Duke as we kicked off his second year. If you’re planning a sports-themed party, I hope this gave you some fun ideas to make it extra special!
